Marble Bathtubs: Sizes, Weights, Finishes & Sourcing from Quyang

Why Marble Bathtubs Command a Premium

A solid marble bathtub is one of the most photographed items in any luxury bathroom — hotel suites, spa resorts and high-end residential projects use them as the anchor piece. Unlike acrylic or composite tubs, carved natural stone keeps the room warm in summer and cool in winter, ages beautifully, and reads instantly as quality. Because the manufacturing skill and stone supply concentrate in Quyang and surrounding Hebei quarries, China remains the dominant source for hand-carved marble tubs.

Sizes, Shapes & Typical Weights

The most-ordered shapes are the classic oval soaker, the rectangular Roman-style tub, and round or square soaking pools. A standard single-occupancy oval runs 150-180cm long, 70-85cm wide, and 65-75cm deep.

Weight drives freight more than size, so a 170cm tub in 4-6cm wall thickness is the sweet spot for balancing presence with container economics. Always confirm the net weight before booking — it determines whether one or two tubs go in a 40ft container with the rest of the shipment.

Stone & Finish Choices

White marble (Diana, Carrara-type and Chinese white grades) is the classic tub look, showing clean veining against water. Gray and black granite are tougher and better for freestanding outdoor or public-space tubs. Travertine gives a warm, spa-like matte texture.

Finish matters as much as stone: a polished interior feels smooth and is easiest to keep clean, but can be slippery underfoot — many buyers ask for a honed interior floor with a polished exterior. Confirm the drain position, overflow holes and the floor-flatness of the base, since a tub that rocks on its plinth is a callback waiting to happen.

Packing, QC & Shipping

A marble tub ships in a custom foam-lined wooden crate with the tub blocked and braced so it cannot shift in transit. Two people inspect before dispatch: (1) no cracks, chips or hidden fissures — tap-test the walls; (2) interior surface polished to spec, no grinding marks; (3) drain and overflow holes drilled straight and at the requested positions; (4) base fully flat on a level surface.

Tubs move as breakbulk or mixed into a 40ft container (approx. 1-2 per container with other carvings). FOB Tianjin is the standard Incoterm, with DDP door-to-door available for single-tub renovation projects. Budget for local cranage or a tail-lift on delivery — a 700kg crate needs equipment, not a hand truck.

How to Brief a Marble Tub Order

Send the reference photo or drawing plus four numbers: outside length, width, depth, and wall thickness. Specify stone and finish (polished, honed, or mixed), drain/overflow positions, and any carved decoration — fluted sides, lion-claw feet, or a sculpted backrest. Quyang carvers match reference detail closely, and a foam mock-up or approval drawing is produced before carving for bespoke shapes.
