Marble Coffee & Side Tables: Sourcing Indoor Stone Furniture

Marble Tables: The High-Value Interior Line

Marble coffee tables, side tables and dining tables are one of the highest-value stone products per piece. A single carved or marble-top table can retail for more than an entire container of pavers, and the buyers — interior designers, hotels, villa owners, furniture importers — are used to working with suppliers who deliver finish quality. For a stone exporter it is a natural step up from raw slabs and tiles.

Table Types & Market Demand

Stone Choices: Marble, Travertine, Onyx, Granite

White marble (Carrara-type, Calacatta-look, Guangxi White) dominates the market, with dramatic veining the main selling point. Gray marble and travertine suit the popular matte, modern style. Onyx creates backlit statement pieces for hotels and luxury retail. Black marble (Marquina-look) is the classic contrast choice. For outdoor café or terrace tables, granite is the practical option — it is tougher and less porous than marble.

Note the difference between natural stone tops and artificial (composite) marble tops: natural stone costs more but is unique per slab; artificial tops are uniform, less expensive and lighter. Be explicit in quotes which one you are pricing.

Bases: Metal, Wood or Solid Stone

Table tops are usually combined with a base from another supplier. Stainless steel bases in gold, brass or black finishes are the current standard for marble coffee tables; wooden bases give a warmer, classic look; and solid stone plinth or cylinder bases make a fully stone piece. When sourcing, decide whether your factory supplies the complete table or only the top — mixed sourcing (top from a stone factory, base from a metal shop) is common but doubles your QC and packing coordination.

Finish & Edge Details That Matter

Polished tops are standard for marble tables; honed and matte finishes are the modern trend. Edge profiles change the whole look: bevel, bullnose, waterfall (the stone wrapping down the sides) and eased square edges are the most requested. Ask for photos of the exact edge and corner treatment before production, and specify whether the underside is polished or left sawn — visible undersides matter on low coffee tables.

Packing & Shipping

Marble tops ship in foam-lined wooden crates, packed face-to-face with protective film and corner protectors when stacked. Complete tables ship with the base disassembled and hardware bagged — include an assembly drawing. Tops are fragile at the corners and thin edges, so QC includes a tap-test for hidden fissures and a careful corner inspection. Tables move well mixed into 40ft containers; FOB Tianjin is standard.

QC Checklist

Always approve the actual slab or a photo of the matched top before polishing — veining varies by block, and buyers who skip this step are the ones who complain about color later.
