Stone Garden Furniture: Marble Benches, Tables & Planters — Sourcing Guide
Why Carved Stone Garden Furniture
Stone garden furniture does what wood and metal cannot: it never rots, rusts, or blows over, and it looks more substantial the longer it ages. For hotels, resorts, parks, cemeteries and high-end residential projects, carved marble or granite benches, tables and planters signal permanence. Because the pieces are heavy and the work is skilled, sourcing from the factory — Quyang, China's stone-carving capital — keeps cost a fraction of what a Western stone yard charges.
The Product Range Buyers Order Most
Most garden-furniture orders from Quyang fall into a few repeat categories:
- Stone benches — classic park benches with carved arms and legs, or solid slab benches with pedestal supports
- Marble & granite tables — round or rectangular tops with column, pedestal or scroll bases, for patios and restaurants
- Planters & urn planters — carved bowls, urns and troughs in every size, from balcony pots to entrance statement pieces
- Bistro sets — small table plus two or four stools, increasingly popular for cafes and terraces
- Stone birdbaths, columns and low walls — often ordered in the same container to fill space
Marble vs Granite: Which to Spec
White marble looks refined indoors or in covered areas, but it stains and etches outdoors in wet, acidic environments. Granite is the practical choice for exterior furniture that must survive frost, rain and years of use — it takes a high polish, resists weather, and is far less porous. For benches and tables that will live outside year-round, most importers choose gray or black granite, or ask for honed (matte) white marble that hides weathering better than high-gloss.
Sizes, Weights & Freight Realities
A typical park bench is 150-180cm long, 45-50cm wide, and weighs 150-400kg depending on design and material. A 90cm round marble table top with a pedestal base runs 200-350kg. These weights drive shipping: plan for roughly 8-12 tonnes of stone furniture per 20ft container, and confirm the pieces can be handled at the destination — forklift, crane or manual labor affects how you pack and how many sections each piece is split into. Our container-loading guide covers the packing details in depth.
Design Options & Custom Carving
Stone furniture is made to order, so nothing has to be stock. You can specify armrest style, backrest height, carved motifs (floral, geometric, classical or traditional Chinese), surface finish (polished, honed, or sandblasted), and even engraved logos or names for restaurants and parks. Because every piece is carved rather than molded, custom designs cost little extra in tooling — the price scales mostly with size and carving density.
QC & Documentation Checklist
Before shipment check: surface finish uniformity (no unpolished patches), no hairline cracks from quarrying, accurate dimensions against the approval drawing, all holes pre-drilled for anchor bolts where specified, and edge quality on tabletops. Standard export documents apply — commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Origin — and pieces ship FOB Tianjin in wooden crates or strapped, foam-lined frames. For large commissions, a pre-shipment photo/video inspection is routine and recommended.
